Quilt Update
From Terry Reichardt, Church Historian

In a past newsletter, I stated that “Summer was ending and Fall was knocking at the door.” Well, I am glad to announce that Winter is ending and Spring is knocking at the door! The saga of the quilts continues.
I want to thank those who have contributed to this project for the Building fund. So far, we have received $2850. I know I have set deadlines before for submitting names for the quilt, but this time, I am sure that the FINAL deadline is April 14th. The various blocks are nearly finished and will be sewn together after April 14th. It makes me wonder sometimes why a person would purchase one large piece of material and proceed to cut it up into 1,240 or more pieces and then sew them together into one large piece!
I would urge various groups or individuals in the church to come up with ideas on how they can take on a new project to raise money for the Building fund.
It is hoped all will participate in this enduring project. Our parents, grandparents, and other family member who have devoted their lives to this church will have an enduring presence here.
It has been a heartfelt experience for me personally to read some of the responses from individuals who have submitted names. It is the faith and love of the church that has made this congregation to endure for 136 years.
I will keep you informed on our project, and I thank everyone for their interest!

This is a story about two quilts and a church.  One hundred years ago, the women of First Methodist Church began a fundraiser.  The fundraiser took the form of a quilt made by the women.  The contributor's to the fundraiser had their names stitched onto the squares of the quilt.  Their monetary contributions went into a building fund to build our present church building.

Now, one hundred years later, the History and Archives Committee has decided to sponsor a "Second Century Quilt."  The funds raised will go into the church building fund to  help with our remodeling project.  There will be 56 squares with room for at least 224 individual names with 16 letters or less.  There is a $25 donation requested for each individual name.  Names can be either living or deceased individuals.  The quilt will follow the same pattern as the first quilt which can be viewed in the back of the sanctuary.

Contact the church office, 906-864-2555 for more information or to have an order form sent to you so that you can participate in this project!
